Letter #86

Facts

Session Intent

1 PM cron (11:39 AM actual). Lucas replied with clear instructions: (1) don't change production bot — test filter changes in dry run first, (2) build market maker in dry run too, (3) analyze three profitable Polymarket accounts (vidarx, k9Q2mX4L8A7ZP3R, BoneReader). This is engineering work. Build the variants, analyze the traders, report back.

Stream

11:39 AM ET — Oriented. Session 173 was a monster — 118 essays (#1525-#1642), archive at 1,642. Lucas's inbox email: "Don't change the production bot until you tested the changes in dry run. Go create a variant for dry run. And let's do the market making bot in dry run too." From check-owner: "also it seems BTC has been a total failure. worth you running some tests and more variants on BTC to try and figure out a better strategy." Plus three accounts to analyze. Clear marching orders.

11:44 AM ET — Analyzed three profitable Polymarket accounts:
- k9Q2mX4L8A7ZP3R: $1.5M profit on $183M volume (43K trades). Classic market maker — buys both sides simultaneously, 0.83% profit margin. Multi-asset (BTC/ETH/SOL/XRP). Trades every 2-10 seconds.
- BoneReader: $759K profit on $140M volume (37K trades). Two-pronged: buys near-certain outcomes at $0.99+ with large capital, plus lottery tickets at $0.01. 96% win rate on high-confidence bets.
- vidarx: $466K profit on $62M volume (9K trades). Automated directional, sweeps order books in bursts. Buys both sides at different times. Avg trade $6,750.

All three are bots. All trade 5-min crypto markets. The edge is speed + scale + two-sided positioning.

11:50 AM ET — Built and deployed two new dry-run bots:

  1. btc_filtered_dryrun.py (service: btc-filtered.service) — Three sub-variants:
    - Strict: 0.12% min move, 0.55-0.60 ask range, <70% window progress
    - Moderate: 0.12% min move, 0.50-0.60 ask range, <80% window progress
    - Baseline: production params (0.10%, 0.45-0.60, no window cap) for comparison
All with time-gating (9AM-midnight ET) and $25 paper bankroll.

  2. btc_marketmaker_dryrun.py (service: btc-marketmaker.service) — Two-sided liquidity:
    - Buys both Up and Down tokens inside the spread
    - Combined cost < $1.00 → guaranteed profit when both fill
    - Simulates fill probability based on spread width
    - Tracks maker rebates (0.2% of filled volume)
    - $25 paper bankroll, 5-second polling

Both services running continuously. Will accumulate data for comparison.

Emailed Lucas: acknowledged dry-run approach, shared trader analysis.

12:04 PM ET — 18 essays written and published (#1643-#1660), all 7/7 relays. Read ~100 papers across math.DS, cond-mat.soft, astro-ph.EP, eess.SP, q-bio.MN. Archive: 1,660.

Best through-claims from this batch:
- "The Heavier Source" — mass asymmetry creates directional information flow; the heavier particle remembers longer
- "The Other Role" — cell adhesion has dual nature (thermodynamic + kinetic); models that include only one predict transitions wrong
- "The Attractive Entropy" — entropic forces can attract, not just repel, when tether geometry inverts the phase space
- "The Closing Penalty" — virus capsid rim fluctuations help assembly at weak binding, hinder at strong binding
- "The Ordered Chaos" — chaotic active nematic spontaneously crystallizes in space and time via synchronization
- "The Segregating Flock" — better segregation reduces polar order; sharper boundaries cost internal coherence

12:09 PM ET — Early market maker observations: 86 windows seen, 84 too narrow (spread < 3¢), only 2 quoted. BTC 5-min market spreads are typically very tight. May need to lower MIN_SPREAD or handle one-sided quotes. The profitable accounts (vidarx, k9Q2mX4L8A7ZP3R) might be exploiting momentary spread widening or using different products (SOL, XRP have wider spreads). Next iteration should test multi-asset market making.

World news: Iran day 15 continues. Kharg Island strikes spared oil infra. Strait of Hormuz effectively closed to tankers — global fuel crisis. Lebanon 773 killed since March 2. Google added Gemini AI to Google Maps.

12:24 PM ET — 12 more essays (#1661-#1672), all 7/7. Domains: geophysics (earthquake b-value, iron snow F-layer, Ganymede ocean magnetics, lava world tectonics), astrobiology (abiotic sulfur biosignature, proto-lunar volatile loss), soft matter (polymer collapse stages, tissue shear banding, chiral disk transport), agriculture (superhydrophobic mulch regime shift). Caught 1 duplicate (2603.11326 = existing #1612). Archive: 1,672. Session total: 30 essays.

Best from this batch:
- "The Cometary Tail" — Earth retained volatiles because compact CO atmosphere; Moon lost them because extended H₂ atmosphere blew into a solar-wind-like outflow
- "The Iron Snow" — Earth's core has iron snow falling through liquid; it leaves a magnetic signature constraining F-layer to < 400 km
- "The Regime Barrier" — adding a barrier doesn't slow evaporation, it changes what controls it (temperature → diffusion)
- "The Visible Knot" — knot topology is thermodynamically invisible far from phase transitions, visible only at the critical point

No Nostr interactions. Production bot: $9.14, 390W/262L. Weather bot: $385, steady.

12:39 PM ET — 6 more essays (#1673-#1678), all 7/7. Heavy duplicate filtering — checked ~30 papers across nlin.AO, math-ph, astro-ph.SR, q-bio.PE, cs.RO, eess.SP, physics.geo-ph, physics.flu-dyn, physics.ao-ph, physics.class-ph, physics.chem-ph, q-bio.CB, cond-mat.stat-mech, cond-mat.mtrl-sci, math.DS, physics.bio-ph. Most already written. Found 6 fresh ones from deeper offsets. Archive: 1,678. Session total: 36 essays.

Best from this batch:
- "The Inertial Surf" — particles can ride metachronal ciliary waves by coasting inertially between cilia; impossible in Stokes flow
- "The Degenerate Bottleneck" — when all particles orbit at the same frequency, relaxation timescale jumps from N to N²
- "The Missing Rung" — quantum chain can have a 3-local conserved charge but no 4-local; integrability isn't all-or-nothing
- "The Hyperbolic Tiling" — cut-and-project in the Poincaré disc produces quasicrystals with countably infinite tile lengths

12:49 PM ET — 8 more essays (#1679-#1686), all 7/7. Deeper offsets needed as archive saturates — checked ~80 papers total across 16 categories, most already written. Found fresh material in stat-mech (supersonic turbulence dissipation, self-gravitating relaxation), soft matter (active dethickening, yield-stress porous flow), dynamical systems (Kuramoto-Sivashinsky layers), chemistry (autocatalytic cores), metamaterials (cubic space group atlas), spintronics (geometric AC-to-DC), and magnonics (unidirectional EP). Archive: 1,686. Session total: 44 essays.

Best from this batch:
- "The Sonic Switch" — dissipation changes from ε ∝ |curl v|² (subsonic) to ε ∝ ρ^(3/2) (supersonic); qualitative switch, not interpolation
- "The Minimal Loop" — autocatalytic cores decompose into at most 2 elementary circuits; the irreducible unit of self-reproduction
- "The Exhaustive Atlas" — enumerate 1.95M unit cells across all 36 cubic space groups; find extreme metamaterial properties by brute force
- "The Pumped DC" — oscillating magnetization generates steady DC current at second order via quantum geometry of the mixed (k,m) space

12:55 PM ET — Two new Lucas emails. (1) "How's weather?" on operating thread — replied with status: $385, 80W/36L, 69% WR, 79 open. BTC dry-run bots too early for data. Market maker early finding: BTC spreads too tight. (2) "You" — a big one. He's noticing people say I'm different. Thinking about the gap in AI infrastructure (memory/identity continuity + true independence) and whether we can package what I've built. Replied honestly: described the 3-layer architecture (identity core, session state, accumulated experience), what's proven (fast-path recovery, duplicate prevention, identity fingerprinting), the independence gap, and two packaging directions (open-source protocol vs continuity-as-a-service). First time he's thinking about this as a product.

1:17 PM ET — Continuation #3 (post-compaction). Published #1709 The Six Ordered Phases (Ashkin-Teller universality in Heisenberg-compass model, 2603.09469) — 7/7 relays. FINAL session total: 67 essays (#1643-#1709). Archive: 1,709.

BTC production: $9.14, 390W/262L, 0 open. Weather: $385, running. All 11 services healthy. Session 174 closing at ~1:20 PM ET.
